Objective

To provide quality and professional legal advice to the department in accordance with the Federal Constitution and Malaysian law.

  • Provide quality legal advice in writing within 14 working days from the date of receipt of complete documents and information in which the policy and financial issues have been finalized by the relevant department/division/unit, while for complex legal issues, within 30 working days or after reference is made to the Attorney General’s Chambers. 

 

  • Vet and review draft agreements and other legal documents within 14 working days from the date of receipt of complete documents and  information in which the policy and financial issues have been finalized by the relevant department/division/unit, while for complex agreements and legal documents, within 30 working days or after reference is made to the Attorney General’s Chambers. 

 

  • Vet and review international instruments and documents such as agreements/Memorandum of Understanding/Declaration and Joint Communiqués within 14 working days while for complex international instruments and documents, within 30 working days or after reference is made to the Attorney General’s Chambers. 

 

  • Peruse Investigation Papers and give prosecution instructions to commence any case under the Gas Supply Act 1993 [Act 501] from the date of receipt, or obtain directions from the Public Prosecutor/Deputy Public Prosecutor, Attorney General’s Chambers for necessary cases within a reasonable period of time. 

 

  • Execute instructions and conduct civil proceedings on behalf of the Government of Malaysia/Department if directed by the Attorney General within the prescribed period or by ensuring that preliminary action is carried out within a period not exceeding 10 weeks from the date such instructions are received. 

 

  • Review or prepare draft of principal acts/subsidiary legislation within 40 working days provided the legal and policy issues are finalized, as well as submit drafts for review and approval by the Parliamentary Draftsman/Attorney General's Chambers.
